Here's a simple experiment we did today.  Very few simple ingredients needed but the effect is dramatic.

Materials needed:

• Plate
• glass of water
• food color
• candle
• matches
• glass to cover

(a) Mix a few drops of  food coloring to water
(b) Pour the color water into the plate
(c) put the candle in the middle of the plate and light it
(d) put a glass upside down on top of the candle
(e) watch what happens
